Metro Court Announces New Presiding Civil Division Judge

August 1, 2015

Chief Judge Henry A. Alaniz announced that the Honorable Frank A. Sedillo is taking over as the Court's Presiding Civil Division Judge. Judge Sedillo replaces the Honorable Rosie Lazcano Allred, who served as the presiding Judge in the Civil Division since 2013.

Judge Sedillo has served as a Judge in the Court's Civil Division since 2000, hearing thousands of civil matters each year. Judge Sedillo also volunteers his time for the Court's Homeless Court Program - going out to homeless shelters and resolving cases for homeless individuals who may feel intimidated entering a courthouse setting and/or uneasy about leaving their possessions behind at the door.

Prior to being elected as a Judge, Judge Sedillo worked as a Court Clerk for U.S. Federal District Court, Assistant in the United States Senate, Legislative Assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives and as a practicing private attorney for 14 years. His law practice included representing a variety of families, individuals and companies in the areas of real estate, small business, collections, personal injury, domestic relations and criminal law.

While attending the University of New Mexico, Judge Sedillo received a Presidential Scholarship Award; Elk's Foundation National Scholarship Award; University of New Mexico Dean Clauve Award; Western Athletic Conference Stan Bates Award; Academic All-WAC Awards; and Varsity Letterman (Football) Awards.

Judge Sedillo received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of New Mexico, Anderson School of Management in 1982 and his law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1987.

Judge Sedillo has served on and/or assisted several civic organizations, such as, City of Albuquerque GOV 16 Television Board of Directors; Young American Football League President, Board of Directors and Coach; UNM Lobo Club Fund Raising Committee; UNM Letterman Alumni Association Board of Directors; Albuquerque Public Schools Career Days and Leaders and Readers Lecturer; and Newspapers in Education Donor. He currently serves on the following professional committees: New Mexico State Bar Association; NM State Bar Legal Services & Programs Committee; NM State Bar Public Legal Education Commission; NM Supreme Court Judges User Group Committee; NM Supreme Court Judicial Continuing Legal Education Committee; and the NM Supreme Court Metropolitan Rules Committee.

Metro Court congratulates and welcomes Judge Sedillo and thanks Judge Allred for her years of dedication and hard work.
