Please note that Metro Court has recently changed its case management system for criminal cases to the statewide case management system, Odyssey. The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court is located on the northwest corner of 4th St. and Lomas Blvd. NW in Albuquerque's Courthouse District. Metro Court is the courthouse with the scales of justice sculpture in the front plaza. The courthouse is open from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Weapons of any kind, pepper sprays, cell phones, electronic recording devices and camera-capable devices are not allowed in the courthouse.

Metropolitan Court has New Chief Judge

June 10, 2014

The nineteen Judges of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court have today elected a new Chief Judge due to the upcoming retirement of current Chief Judge Julie N. Altwies. Judge Henry A. Alaniz will be Chief Judge of the state's busiest Court effective July 1st. Judge Alaniz, a native of Roswell, NM, has been serving as a Metro Court Judge in the Court's Criminal Division, and he also presides over the Court's Homeless Court Program. Chief Judge-Elect Alaniz serves on the Court's Rules Committee and Employee Conference Committee, as well as statewide committees of Public Access to Justice and the state Board of Bar Examiners. Before taking the bench, Chief Judge-Elect Alaniz worked in private practice, as an Assistant District Attorney with the Second Judicial District Attorney's Office and also served as President of the State Bar of New Mexico.

Chief Judge-Elect Alaniz received his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration through the Dual Degree Program from the University of New Mexico.
Chief Judge Altwies said the Metro Court Judges conducted their election today with great collegiality and enthusiasm for their Court, and she continued to be proud of the Judges of the Court.
Chief Judge-Elect Alaniz said he "looks forward to leading an extraordinarily hard-working Court where each employee's work, at every level, contributes to the Court's efficiencies and success."
